Meet the Campus Capital Manchester student VCs

The University of Manchester has launched one of the first on-campus student venture capital (VC) groups in the UK with Campus Capital. Following a tough selection process, a team of 17 student VCs from across the University have been appointed.

The team was recruited for individual merit, enthusiasm, their skillset – and their ability to apply these skills. They were also recruited as a team that would be diverse in terms of background, discipline and experience.

The team

Adaobi Adibe, BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Amira Battle, MEnt Textiles and Fashion
Chris Ikunnah, BDS Dentistry
Cindy Soh, MBChB Medicine
Driss Ouazzani, MBA
Fritz Lensch, MSc Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship
Ignas Bolsokovas, BSc Computer Science and Mathematics
Jack Riminton, MBA
Juli Okayama, BSc Physics
Loreta Hasana, BSc Biotechnology
Myrto Lalacos, MSc Organisational Psychology
Nancy Lin, BA Linguistics and Sociology
Oliver Gough, BAEcon Economics
Riddi Viniswathan, BAEcon Business Studies and Economics
Rishan Rahman, BEng Chemical Engineering
Unéné Gregory, PhD Mechanical Engineering and Biomechatronics

The student VCs will act as investors, dealing with real start-ups who are pitching for real investment, testing their ability to spot good opportunities and understand what makes a company investable in the early stages. The experience will also allow them to develop transferable skills such as teamwork, negotiation, and critical thinking.

The team is supported by two University Advisors; Lynn Sheppard, Director of Manchester Enterprise Centre, and Martin Henery, Enterprise Lecturer at Alliance Manchester Business School.

Lynn commented, "This unique on-campus venture capital fund is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn how to deal with venture capitalists, by effectively becoming a VC Group. The student team were recruited from right across the University and will bring a fresh perspective to investment decisions and will give the team real world experience of the world of venture capital".
