Social enterprise

What is a social enterprise?

Social enterprises are organisations with a focus on creating a benefit to society. Profits are reinvested into the company or the community rather than being paid out to shareholders.

Social enterprise and Manchester

If you are interested in setting up or being involved in a social enterprise, we can offer you:

  • A high number of students looking to make a positive impact on the lives of others
  • A high level of community engagement and volunteering through both students and staff
  • World class research that provides some of the potential solutions to key issues both locally and further afield
  • Specialist staff to support the process of starting up and growing a social enterprise

We see social enterprise as an important area of focus with interest growing year on year among students, researchers and staff

Our students have had success with social enterprises in recent Venture competitions and external competitions such as the Dell Social Innovation Challenge.
