Ideas Factory #2 - Jayne Lawton - Grobox Gardens

Monday, 15 October 2012

Time: 12.30 - 13.30

Venue: Alumni Club Room (within the Bar), ground floor, MBS West

Ideas Factory is our new series of guest entrepreneur events for students from all over the University.

This week we welcome Founder and Owner of Grobox Gardens, Jayne Lawton. Jayne will be talking about how she went from her initial idea to building a successful business.

Jayne is a trained horticulturist with the Royal Horticultural Society and a qualified horticultural lecturer.

Through her time lecturing partially sighted students, Jayne identified a gap in the marketplace for a designer growing box product with a collection of handpicked scented plants.

All people have to do is sink the exclusive grobox into the soil, water it, and then sit back and appreciate the perfume of the flowers as they grow and watch it return every year getting bigger and better. The packaging is biodegradable and is carbon neutral, sustainable and ethical.

Jayne has been awarded:

  • British Female Innovator of the Year 2006
  • Packard Bell Independent Working Mum of the Year 2006
  • Orange Business Innovation of the Year 2006 - Highly commended
  • Grazia / O2 Female entrepreneur of the Year 2007 - Finalist
  • National Packing Awards for Design
