Have you got a question about Venture Out or Venture Further? Help is at hand with these answers to some frequently asked questions.


Do I have to register?
No. To enter, all you have to do is submit your entry form before the deadline.

Can I enter more than once?

What sort of ideas are you looking for?
Any idea is welcome. It can be a new product or service, a new way of doing something that is already being done or it might be something aimed at improving the lives of individuals and of communities, i.e. a social enterprise. The winner is the most innovative idea judged to have the most chance of success.

Who can enter?
Anyone can enter as long as 50% of your team are registered students at The University of Manchester. Undergraduate and postgraduate students can enter.

Do I need to enter Venture Out to take part in Venture Further?
No. You do not need to have entered Venture Out to enter Venture Further, they are completely separate.

Do I have to be studying a business related degree programme or unit?
No. The competition is University wide and students from any subject discipline can enter.

Do I need any previous business experience?
No. The aim of the competition is to help you develop the skills you need to take your ideas forward. You can also team up with other people to broaden the range of skills within your team.

Do I have to be in a team?
No. You can enter as an individual or as a team. However, being in a team means that you will have access to a greater range of skills.

If I am in a winning team, who gets the prize money?
The cheque is made out to the lead entrant. How the money is shared out is up to you.

Who owns the intellectual property (IP) of competition entries?
If you are a student and it is your idea then you own the IP. All competition entries are treated with the strictest confidentiality. You should be aware that ideas developed with University staff as team members may have implications for the intellectual property. Please contact the competition office for further information.
